Anna: Mum, I’ve been thinking… how did you manage to stay so patient when I was a difficult teenager?
Sarah: Oh, sweetheart, it wasn’t always easy! But when you love someone unconditionally, you find strength you didn’t know you had.
Anna: But I remember shouting horrible things at you sometimes. Weren’t you angry?
Sarah: Of course I was hurt, but anger fades. What remained was the certainty that you needed me to be your safe harbour, even when you were pushing me away.
Anna: That sounds exhausting. Didn’t you ever want to give up?
Sarah: Never. Though I’ll admit there were nights I cried in the kitchen after you went to bed. But seeing you grow into this wonderful woman made every struggle worthwhile.
Anna: I don’t know how to thank you for that kind of love.
Sarah: You don’t have to, darling. Though… you could call more often now that you’ve moved out!
Anna: *laughing* Point taken! But seriously, your patience taught me what real strength looks like.
Sarah: And your rebellious phase taught me that love isn’t about control – it’s about being there when the storm passes.
Anna: I think I finally understand why they say a mother’s arms are made of tenderness.
Sarah: And a daughter’s forgiveness is the sweetest gift of all. Now, how about some tea? I’ve made your favourite biscuits.
Anna: You still remember?
Sarah: I remember everything, my love. That’s what mothers do.
