CN-Reader and Polyglot Reader Privacy Policy

Effective October 2, 2026. Applies to the cnreader.ru website (CN-Reader), the @cnreaderbot and @polyglot_reader_bot Telegram bots and the Polyglot Reader mobile apps for Android and iOS. It is one reader under two names with shared accounts.

The reader helps you read texts in Chinese, English and Russian: it splits them into words, shows translations, pinyin or transcription, reads them aloud and helps you review words. This page explains what data that takes, where it is stored and how to delete it.

Data we store

We do not collect location, contacts or advertising identifiers and we show no ads. There are no purchases in the app.

Microphone and speech recognition

In the Conversation section you can answer by voice. The microphone turns on only when you tap the button. Speech is recognized by your phone or browser (Google or Apple services, depending on the device); the reader receives only the recognized text. We do not receive or store voice recordings.

Notifications

Review reminders and the Text of the day are local notifications scheduled on your phone. They are turned on only with your permission and can be switched off in Settings or in the phone settings.

Who receives data

Data is stored on a hosting server in Russia. To translate a word or sentence, break down a text, generate a text, reply in Conversation or read text aloud, the relevant piece is sent to an AI service: GigaChat (Sberbank), Cloud.ru or Groq; for speech synthesis — to Microsoft. Your username, email or other account data are not sent with these pieces. Data is not shared with or sold to anyone else.

Pieces are taken only from what you typed, imported or opened in the reader. The first such transfer happens only after you explicitly allow it in the app: the "Sharing data with third-party AI services" screen shows what is sent and to whom. You can withdraw the permission in Settings with the "Third-party AI services" switch; the AI features then turn off, while reading, the dictionary and review keep working without sending data.

The third-party services operate under agreements and policies that protect data at least as strictly as personal-data law requires; they do not use it for advertising and do not sell it.

English word meanings come from the open CC-CEDICT dictionary (CC BY-SA 4.0, mdbg.net).

Why we need the data

How to delete your data

You can delete your account yourself: Settings, at the very bottom "Delete account", then confirm with your password (guest accounts are deleted without a password). Your texts, vocabulary, review history, statistics, settings and feedback messages are deleted immediately. Only anonymized figures remain in the AI cost log.

If you cannot sign in, send a deletion request below. We will delete the account and all related data manually within 7 days.

Children

The service is not specifically intended for children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data about them.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will appear on this page with a new date.
